It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Manford Wrolstad must announce the passing of her husband, their dad, stepfather, and grandfather on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ont. after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Garry, Mn. on Aug. 5, 1917 to Henry and Rose Wrolstad. Vernon moved to the Bergland, Ont. area with his family as an infant.
He was self-employed as a farmer and logger. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending some time hunting and going to the rapids to fish.
He was united in marriage to the late Gladys McKenzie on Jan. 2, 1945. After her passing, he married Lorna Peters on April 18, 1998.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Lorna; daughters, Shirley (Wilson) Kaan of Saskatoon, Sask., and Phyllis Carleton of Kelowna, B.C.; grandchildren, Kim Carleton, Clint Carleton, and Michael Kaan; great-grandchildren, Jessika and Madison; stepchildren, Leona (Peter) VanHeyst, Dorothy (Eltjo) Wiersema, Joyce (John) Penner, Carl (Dawn) Peters, Martha (George) Siemens, Ruth (Jack) Siemens, and Paul (Susan) Peters and their families; and sister, Edith of Dryden, Ont.
Vernon was predeceased by his first wife, Gladys on June 29, 1997; and siblings, Evelyn, Earl, Marvin, Orville, Maxine, and Kenneth.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rainy River, with Rev. J. Wilson Kaan officiating.
Interment took place at the Bergland Cemetery in Bergland.
Pallbearers were Eltjo Wiersema, Peter VanHeyst, Mark VanHeyst, John Penner, Jack Siemens, and George Siemens.
Honourary pallbearers were Pat Giles, Leonard Larsen, Ken Larson, Allan Johnson, Marlow Wrolstad, Glenn Anderson, Gary Wrolstad, Len Wrolstad, and Ray Lowes.
