Velma Anne Riordon (Cox)

Velma Anne Riordon (Cox) passed away peacefully in hospital on Thursday, June 6, 2002 with her family at her side.
Velma was born on May 17, 1943 in St. Boniface, Man. to Frederick and Amy Cox. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and volunteering her time. She was especially proud of the time she spent as a volunteer helping children learn to read.
In recent years, some of her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and indulging her interest in sketching.
Velma was predeceased by her father, Frederick; an infant son, Wade Frederick; mother, Amy; and stepfather, Adolph Werner.
She is survived by, and will be lovingly remembered by, her children, John Carson (Tammy), Colleen Doran (Peter), and Kenna Huffman (Greg); and grandchildren, Marc and Mitchell Riordon, Tasmin and Tara Doran, and Curtis and Ashton Huffman.
Also surviving are her brother, Robert Cox (Hala-Dee); sister, Susan Bryk (Bryan); stepchildren, Lisa St. Amand (Chris), Kevin Stevens (Lisa), Sonya Chartrand, and Rhonda Dupuis; numerous nieces and nephews; and her treasured cats, Blaze and Simba.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the Redwood Alliance Church, 532 N. Edward St., with Friend Jim Hyder officiating.
Interment in Atikokan, Ont. will be held at a later date.
