Valerie Joan Henry, 78, of Huntsville, Ont., passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Saturday, June 28, 2014 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Valerie was born Sept. 9, 1935 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Minnie and Ben Langtry.
Valerie married the love of her life, Herbert John Henry, on Aug. 31, 1957.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Leah Laing (Stephen) of Calgary, Alta. and Joan-Ann Henry of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, Mark, of Saskatoon, Sask.; daughter-in-law, Carrie Henry (Doug’s wife); and eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Caleb, Emily, Mitchell, Joshua, Zachary, Luke, and Taleah.
She also is survived by her sister, Audrey Thomson of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, Gerald Langtry (Laurel) of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Valerie was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Henry, and son, Douglas Bruce Henry; parents, Ben and Minnie Langtry; brother-in-law, Elgin Thomson; and nephew, Robert (Bob) Thomson.
Valerie was a very active member of her church and a devout Christian. She enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Parry Sound, Ont., sipping on a cup of coffee with family and friends.
She was a kind, gentle person, always has a smile on her face, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. George Anderson and assisted by Rev. S. Laing of Calgary, Alta.
Interment at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery.
A celebration of Valerie’s life will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Full Gospel Fellowship Church, 1530 Sixth Ave. W., International Falls, Mn.
