Troy Daniel Ottertail, 45, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Troy was born on July 27, 1976, in Fort Frances to Ralph and Joan Ottertail. He grew up in Lac La Croix First Nation and moved to Kenora as a young man. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was very social and loved to spend time with his friends.
He leaves behind his children Selena and Kara; parents Ralph and Joan; siblings Ralph Jr., Dawn (Darren), Cory, Christopher and Crystal (Roger); niece Aaliyah and nephew Sidney; aunts and uncles Elmer Whitefish, Clifford Whitefish, Wayne Whitefish (Beatrice), Shelia Whitefish (Gerry) and Douglas; cousins Gish, Dorothy, Delbert, Leslie, Stacey, Barry, Quendy, Mike, Jackie, Cindy, Jason, Dez, Corinne, Jonathan, Blair, Josh, Saxon and Lisa and their families.
Troy was predeceased by his brother Darren; grandparents John and Doris Whitefish and Willie and Lizzie Ottertail; aunts Roma Queen Whitefish, Rita Councillor, Beatrice Ottertail and Marie Ottertail; uncles Thomas Whitefish, Norman Whitefish, Brian Whitefish, Billy Ottertail; cousins Duane and Jennifer.
A traditional wake and ceremony was held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Lac La Croix First Nation with Elder Tommy Councillor officiating.
The pallbearers were Troy’s friends and community members.
