THYS SINNINGHE

Thys Sinninghe passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. after suffering a stroke.
Thys was born Aug. 2, 1922 in The Netherlands.
After marrying Thea Wiersema, they immigrated to Canada in 1951. They spent two years in Winnipeg, Man., then moved to Atikokan, Ont. for four years.
In the spring of 1957, they bought the farm in Rainy River, Ont. He milked cows for 20 years.
After suffering a heart attack in 1976, he retired from the farm and did more travelling with Mom and their brothers and sisters. Besides travelling, Dad was involved in foster care, 4-H, and municipal council.
His spare time was spent gardening, yard work, tending flowers, and walking up to four miles a day.
After Mom’s passing in 2005, he moved to Emo, Ont.
Thys is survived by his sister, Grace Kooistra of St. Catharines, Ont.; his children, Rudy (Marie), John (Donna), Jack (Wendy), Fred (Cathie), and Lorraine (Scott); seven grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Rodney (Nikki), Jared, Marisa (Eric), and Kyle and Bethany; two great-grandchildren, Ryder and Kenna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeasced by his parents; his wife, Thea (2005); infant daughter, Frieda (1958); two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Rev. Dan Vos officiating.
Interment took place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
The pallbearers were Ed Wiersema, Ben Wiersema, Ryan Sinninghe, Rodney Sinninghe, Jared Sinninghe, and Eric Klatt.
