THERESE PROCHASKA

Therese Prochaska, known to all as Terry, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home in Grand Forks, N.D. at age 89.
Terry was born June 29, 1925 in Baudette, Mn. to John William Grant Coutts and Margaret Ellen Coutts (Williams).
She was the youngest of five Coutts’ girls and the last survivor of her pioneering generation. Her parents built Coutts Camp of Nestor Falls, Ont. in 1927 and Terry’s family continues to operate it today.
Her early years were spent on the family homestead in Morson, Ont., the Coutts Camp resort, and in Baudette, Mn.
She graduated from Crookston Cathedral High School in 1943 while living at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery in Crookston, Mn. She later gained a Graduate of Nursing degree from the University of Minnesota in 1946 and practised as an RN in obstetrics at Hennepin County General Hospital in Minneapolis, Mn.
On July 17, 1948, she married Leonard Joseph Prochaska, M.D. In 1955, the family moved to Grand Forks, where he founded the North Dakota Eye Clinic.
Together, they believed in supporting their community, both in Grand Forks and in Nestor Falls, and encouraged their family to do the same.
Terry was known as an optimist who loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Life was an adventure and she never said no to any new idea or opportunity for fun.
She also was a stoic person who loved both life and her religion.
Terry is survived by her six children, Lynn Prochaska of Fargo, N.D., David Prochaska of Grand Forks, N.D., Gail Kittler (Fred) of Atherton, Calif., Susan Geib (Peter) of Moorhead, Mn., Thomas Prochaska (Mary Patton) of Chicago, Ill., and Molly Prochaska (Jon Jepko) of North Oaks, Mn.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Theresa Palmquist (Patrick Frank), Sophia Kittler, Andrew Kittler, Charles Kittler, William Kittler, Benjamin Jepko, Madeline Jepko, Philip Jepko, and Emma Prochaska; and one great-grandchild, John Frank.
Terry was predeceased by her husband; her parents; and her four sisters and their husbands, Marge Brink (Adlai), Kathleen Wentling (Jack), Maureen Dodds (Jack), and Betty Brodin (Ralph).
A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 524 5th Ave. N., in Grand Forks.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 5-7 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and a 7 p.m. vigil service, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home-Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, 2950 S. Washington in Grand Forks.
Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Interment in the Calvary North Cemetery in Grand Forks.
