Mrs. Teresa (Terry) Elizabeth Stuart, nee Ryan, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 in her home at Pinewood Court in Thunder Bay, Ont.
She was born March 31, 1919 in Winnipeg, Man. and resided in Sleeman, Ont. until the age of seven, after which her family moved to Fort Frances, Ont.
The war years brought her to Toronto, Ont., where she worked at Massey Harris as an ammunition inspector. At the conclusion of the war, she began a career with Bell Canada as a telephone operator.
Eventually she returned to Fort Frances, where she met the love of her life, Ron Stuart. They were wed Sept. 4, 1951 and were blessed with four children.
After her husband’s passing, she eventually moved to Thunder Bay to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Some of Teresa’s most special times with the family were spent at the cabin on Rainy Lake, where she enjoyed many hot and sunny days swimming. Swimming was a particularly favourite pastime for her, and she told stories of younger days when she swam and ran the booms in the upper river.
In later years, Teresa’s favourite pastime was cross-stitching. She shared her creations with family and friends who will cherish them always.
Teresa was a genuinely warm and caring person who devoted many hours to volunteering. She also had a great sense of humour and she made many friends throughout her life.
Teresa is survived by her four children, Mary (John) Maglio, Larry, Ron (Cindy), and Paul (Kathy); 10 grandchildren, Terri Mansfield, Ryan Crowe, Matthew, Christopher, Larry Jr., Gregory, Zachary, Laurenne, Allyson, and Paul Jr.; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Ryan; husband, Ron; siblings, Mary Baldwin, Bill, Pat, Ed, Mike, and Lawrence; grandson, Freddie Crowe; and great-grandson, Ryland Crowe.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jerin Louis of Corpus Christi Church officiating.
Visitation for friends and family took place in the Blake Funeral Chapel a half-hour prior to the service.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at 11 a.m.
If friends desire, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
