SYLVIA ‘SALLY’ SELMAN

Selman, Sylvia

It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia Selman (nee Archutick) announces her passing on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
Sylvia (“Sally∏) was born on Aug. 20, 1932. She spent most of her life living in North Branch, Stratton, and Barwick, and then spent her last couple of years at the long-term care facility in Rainy River.
Sally was united in marriage to Leonard on April 18, 1951 and together they raised five children on the farm north of Stratton.
She spent many happy years sewing for her children, working in her many flower beds, gardening in her huge garden, berry picking and preserving, and helping Dad cut pulp wood and fishing.
One of her favourite pastimes was the beautiful knitting she did for so many, including Afghans, mitts, socks, slippers, sweaters, and dresses. No one ever lacked one of these items.
We never could count the number of puzzles that Mom did; we tried to find the hardest ones for her to enjoy. She spend numerous hours doing search-a-word and reading.
Mom and Dad also enjoyed travelling across Canada from coast to coast with their camper. Many summers also were spent fishing and tenting on various parts of Crow Lake, Whitefish Bay, and Lake of the Woods.
Another favourite pastime was spending time with family, especially for birthdays and special holidays.
Sally was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, in May of 2008; parents, Steve and Sophie Archutick; sister, Nina Advent and husband, Andy; brother, Tony; sister-in-law, Eileen Archutick; brother-in-law, John Jantzen; in-laws, Carman and Mary Selman; sisters-in-law, Evelyn and husband, Doug Nielson, and Beatrice Medwechuk and husband, Nick; and brother-in-law, Arnold.
Sally is survived by her children: daughters, Carolyn (Calvin) Stafford of Stratton, Ont., Rosemary (Garry) Tetu of Rainy River, Ont., Sandra (Andre) Albert of Rexton, N.B., and Shelley Selman (friend, Chris McCormick) of Winnipeg, Man., and son, Carman (Maria de Lourdes) Selman of Hermosillo, Mexico.
Mom was proud to be Gramma to the following grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ken and Michelle Tetu, Daryl and Julie Albert (James and Austin), Angela and Neil Haw (Travis Olson, Scotlynn, Hayden, and Carenna), Patty and Clive Nicholls (Cara and JT), Susie Stafford and Mike Hanson (Max), Dwayne Manaigre (Christopher Clark), Sherri and Travis Marienhoff (Harley and Odin), Stephanie Selman and friend, Don Olson, Rebecca Selman and friend, Jeff Wiersema, Isabel Valenzuela, and Natalia Robles (Maria Robles).
Sally also is survived by her sisters, Vera Archutiuk, Julie Archutiuk, and Shirley Jantzen; brother, Alex Archutiuk; brother-in-law, Irvin Selman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial and interment will be held at a later date in Pine Ridge Cemetery in North Branch.
If so desired, in memoriam donations may be to The Alzheimer’s Society c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
