SYLVIA MAY OLSEN

Sylvia May Olsen, 91, of Emo, Ont., passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 at the Emo Hospital in Emo. She was born May 16, 1910 in Barnhart, Ont. to the late Arthur and Annie West.
Sylvia moved to Barwick, Ont. in 1950 and lived there until 1956, when she moved to Emo, where she had lived since. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo and also was a member of the Women’s Mission Circle at the church.
She was very active in her church and attended her prayer meetings regularly. She liked crocheting and cooking but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Sylvia was united in marriage Oct. 31, 1931 to Stengrim Olsen, who predeceased her. She also was predeceased by her two infant daughters, Thelma and Marilyn; sister, Eleanor Stone; and brothers, Hughie and Manson West.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly and husband, Stanley Sandmoen, of Dryden, Ont., and Evelyn and husband, Dave Barker, of Crozier, Ont.; and four sons, Alfred and wife, Shirley, of Emo, Ont., Arthur and wife, Ida, of Fort Frances, Ont., Dean and wife, Lois, of Prince George, B.C.; and Paul and wife, Bonnie, of Emo, Ont.
Also surviving are 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Claire Corrigan of Emo, Ont., Edna Alexander of Fort Frances, Ont., and Gertie MacMillan of Emo, Ont.; one brother, Leonard West of Emo, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo. Pastor Andrew Hall officiated, with interment in the Emo Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Murray Sandmoen, Greg Sandmoen, Kevin Sandmoen, Kenneth Barker, Wayne Barker, and John Barker.
