“She left us in the early morning,
When softly came the dawn.
And since she never said goodbye,
It’s difficult to think she is gone.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sylvia Margaret Meades (nee Harris) of Lion’s Manor, Winnipeg, Man., at the age of 86. We want her to know she did a great job and she left us better for her love and grace and understanding.

Mom had a passion for growing petunias, sunsets on Rainy Lake, roast beef with gravy for Sunday supper, and her beloved dog Morgan. She excelled at painting china plates, knitting and crocheting, seeing the good in people and making a killer pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved a good dance, to holler at the television during Monday Night Football, and to hug everyone at church on Sunday morning. She loved her family and friends with a fierce loyalty and treated everyone with kindness and respect.

Mom was born in Toronto, Ont., on June 5, 1936, and grew up on Danforth Avenue until marrying Frank Ross Meades September 9, 1956. They built their first home in Pickering and raised their family there until 1972 when they moved to Fort Frances, Ont. One of her proudest accomplishments was passing her Insurance Adjusters license exam and working for many years in the insurance industry, retiring in 1999 from Lindsey Morden.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her brother David Harris (Barbara); her sister Mary Louise Clapson; her children Kimberley, David (Karen), Laura (Dale); grandchildren Adrea, Sacha, Kassin (Chad), Genevieve (Brandon), Kristen, Aaron, Savannah, Max (special mention to Tricia and Dale); and great-grandchildren Ty, Aliyah, Sophia, Grayson, Lily and Sam.

A private celebration of life will be held in Winnipeg on September 24, 2022.
