Stephen Noel Golder, a resident of Pinecrest Home in Kenora, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 in his 92nd year.
He was predeceased by his mother, Bertha C. Golder.
Noel is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Selma (nee Lundin); brothers-in-law, Hilding (Verna) Lundin, Stanley (Isabel) Lundin, and Ronald (Marnie) Lundin; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Lawrence) Paul and Esther (Bert) Edmonds; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
A graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Forestry, Noel was employed by the Ontario-Minnesota Pulp and Paper Co. Ltd. (subsequently Boise Cascade) in Kenora, latterly filling the position of chief forester.
In 1952, he was transferred with the company to Fort Frances, Ont. as general superintendent of the Woodlands Division, retiring in 1972.
Noel took an active part in his community in various capacities, at one time serving as development commissioner for the Town of Fort Frances.
He was keenly interested in gardening, and through this, served as director of District #14 of the Ontario Horticultural Association.
After a short period of time as a resident of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Noel moved to Pinecrest in Kenora in 1998.
A memorial service will be held at Pinecrest Home on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Ek and Rev. S. Ritter officiating.
