The family of Stephen Ellis Jack announce he has begun his journey home. Stephen passed away November 30, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
Stephen was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, on October 17, 1972.
Stephen leaves behind his children Kevin and Courtney and Clarissa Sagatcheway; grandchildren Saul, Carter and Justice. Stephen is also survived by brothers Dustin and Lenny Gibbons Jr.; sister Leslie; his father Lennard Gibbons; uncles Stanley Jack Sr., Tom Jack, Bradley Jack; aunties Christine McQuatch, Maryanne Big George and Kathy Jack; as well numerous cousins and relatives.
Stephen grew up in Morson, and in the communities of Big Grassy and Big Island First Nation.
He loved playing baseball in younger years and also enjoyed hockey, cheering on his favorite teams the Edmonton Oilers and the Boston Bruins.
Stephen loved camping, and taking hikes and enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing on Lake of the Woods with his family.
He moved to Toronto in his later years where he lived for the remainder of his life.
During this time, Stephen made many friends throughout his years in Toronto.
He would attend drum groups throughout the city and loved attending sporting events throughout the city.
A traditional First Nation service will be held for Stephen in Big Grassy First Nation at the Community Hall, with the wake on Wednesday, December 7,2022, at 4:00 p.m. and the funeral on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
Traditional services will be conducted by Elder Tommy Councillor.
