Stanley (Stan) Hawley, 78, of 1016 Scott St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, April 20, 2003, at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born April 9, 1925 in Cloyne, Ont. to the late Archibald and Jean Hawley. Stan was united in marriage Dec. 27, 1950 to Joan Margaret Buist in Brockville, Ont.
Stan was a WWII veteran, serving overseas for his entire “tour of duty” stationed in many countries, including Germany, The Netherlands, and Italy. Upon his discharge, he returned home and found employment with Ontario Hydro.
Stan spent his entire working career (35 years) holding various positions with Ontario Hydro, until his retirement in 1980. He was transferred numerous times to various Ontario communities, including Kapuskasing, Port Hope, Thunder Bay, and Brampton, but his love for the outdoors lured him back to the Fort Frances area in 1970.
This is where he called home.
Stan enjoyed the simple things of life, being at the cabin, hunting or fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.
He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Stan’s generous nature and big heartedness endeared him to his many friends. He will be sadly missed.
