SR. MARIE HENRIETTE

Soeur Marie Henriette RNDM, nee Marie Laetitia Eleonore Chartier, of St. Michael’s Academy, passed away Feb. 13, 1999 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, Man.
The Sisters of St. Michael’s, some of her family members, and Fr. Barry Schoonbaert were with her as she made the final step in her earthly journey.
Sister Laetitia was born Nov. 14, 1905 in St. Lazare, Man. to Lionel Chartier and Corinne Lemoine. She received her elementary education in St. Lazare and on Aug. 17, 1924, she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of Our Lady of Missions in St. Eustache, Man.
She pronounced her First Vows in Regina, Sask. on April 26, 1927 and her Perpetual Vows in Fort Frances, Ont. on April 26, 1933. Included in her professional qualifications are First Class teaching certificates from both Ontario and Manitoba.
During her 46 years of teaching (1928-1974), Sr. Laetitia worked in Regina, Sask., Fort Frances, Ont., St. Eustache, Man., Elie, Man., Letellier, Man., Ste. Rose du Lac, Man., and St. Joseph, Man., where she was both principal and teacher.
Sister Laetitia was predeceased by her mother, Corinne Lemoine; father, Lionel Chartier; step-mother, Rosine Alary; step-sisters, Lucia and Yvonne; brother, Reginald; and step-brothers, Edouard and Damien.
She is survived by her step-sisters, Sr. Bertha Chartier RNDM, Marie-Ange Watters, Aurelienne Haigh, Martine Guay, Roma Bishop, Therese Maki, Jeannette Snyder, and Melina Edmundson; step-brothers, Arthur Chartier, Claude Chartier, and Omer Chartier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions of St. Michael’s Academy.
Prayers were held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, with Fr. Paul Tinguely, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at 11 a.m.
Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery.
