Sophronia M. (“Fronie”) Moulton passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.
Fronie was born Aug. 11, 1918 in Chapple Township to William and Annie Moulton.
She lived and worked on the family farm all of her life until relocating to the Emo Health Centre’s Long-Term Care in 2011.
She loved caring for the animals with her sister, Arlene, tending the sheep and geese, and milking the cows. From the sheep, she would knit socks and mitts for customers all winter long.
She also enjoyed picking blueberries and raspberries for her many customers in Fort Frances.
In her younger years, Fronie provided child care while family members were out working; often spending winters with neighbours while the men were at bush camps.
Fronie was a valued member of the Chapple Women’s Institute for more than 70 years, serving as its president for 30 years. She enjoyed selling tickets for the W.I. quilt raffles.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Fronie was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie; and siblings, Arlene Moulton, Pansy (Harold) Gibson, Alva (Roy) Irvine, Thelma (Bert) Carrier, Ivan (Jean) Moulton, and Wellington Moulton.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Monday, Sept.15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Barwick Cemetery in Barwick, Ont., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
A reception followed at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo.
The pallbearers were Deb Zimmerman, Shirley Teeple, Alice Croswell, Wendy Barnard, and Susan Irvine.
The honourary pallbearers will be Edith Irvine, Beth Angus, Marg Irvine, Phyllis Angus, and Margaret Rahn.
