SHIRLEY ROSE GILL
Born Feb. 27, 1932 in Millidge, Ont., Shirley spent her childhood years in Richan and Dryden, Ont.
After a short courtship with the man who swept her off her feet, Arnold Gill, she subsequently moved to Barwick, Ont.—the town that became her home.
Shirley was very involved with the Barwick Community Church, and for years acted as treasurer. She always was supportive of her husband’s business ventures and worked frequently in the clothing division.
She was an accomplished gardener and grew organically-grown vegetables as well gorgeous flowers.
After the birth of her daughter’s children, Shirley moved to Sioux Narrows, Ont. to be closer to her children and grandchildren, but always kept the family home in Barwick, where she spent many weekends.
After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Shirley passed away at the Emo Hospital in Emo, Ont. on April 11, 2007 at the age of 75. Through her life and illness, her faith never waivered.
Surviving are her children, Bob and his wife, Lily, of Shebandowan, Ont., Stewart and his wife, Yvonne, of Morson, Ont., Susan of Sioux Narrows, Ont., and Scot, also of Sioux Narrows, Ont.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Keith, Tim, Terrance, Andre, Anthony, Morgen, Lauren, and Logan; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her brother Jack (Elsie) Durocher; and sisters, Valerie (Bruce) McIntosh and Mollie (Ivor) Randa. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Arnold (1994); parents, Bertha and Cyril Durocher; and grandson, Robbie Gill.
Family and friends were received at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services were held there Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mark Mast officiating. Interment in Barwick Cemetery in Chapple Township, Ont. at a later date.
