In loving memory of Shirley Ann Fowler, 54, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Shirley was born Nov. 10, 1946 in Fort Frances. She lived here all of her life. She was united in marriage to her husband, James, on July 17, 1965.
Shirley worked at the old Fort Frances High School in the cafeteria until its closing. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 for 32 years, having joined in 1969.
The Legion was a large part of her life and over the years, she has held various executive offices, including president for five years, past president, a member of the Colour Party, and was currently the Deputy District Commander for District #7.
One of Shirley’s favourite pastimes included spending time on the lake fishing (showing the men how to catch fish), camping, and gardening. Shirley’s true joy came from her two granddaughters; they were very special to her heart.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her husband, James S. Fowler; children, Curtis J. Fowler, and Crystal L. George and her husband, Travis; grandchildren, Kaela Fowler and Hailey George; mother, Ella McMahon; brothers and sisters, Carol (Milt Sr.) Strachan, Brenda Gunsolus, Cheryl (John) Bodnarchuk, Denise (Bob) Miller, Terry (Irene) McMahon, Jim (Sheila) McMahon, Dean (Patty) McMahon, and Russell (Jackie) McMahon; sisters-in-law, Christine Hardy and Glenda McMahon; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Larry S. Fowler; father, Terrance A. McMahon; father-in-law, Stewart J. Fowler; and brother, Ralph D. McMahon.
Shirley’s love for family, friends, and life along with the strength that she possessed for all of us to share and draw upon when need has been, will remain a very special and deeply missed miracle–that was “Shirley.”
During Shirley’s courageous battle with her illness, she remained our pillar of strength with a ready smile, an assurance of love, and a keen desire to face tomorrow.
Thank you, Shirley, and thank you, God, for the gift that was wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to all of us who were so fortunate to have known her.
We love you my girl.
