SHIRLEY ALDREEN (GILLIES) NEDLAND

Shirley Nedland, 88. of Dawson Creek B.C., passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011.
Shirley was born Dec. 3, 1922 in Rainy River, Ont. to Gladys and Jack Gillies. She grew up in Rainy River District, leaving home at age 17 for Winnipeg, Man., where she and her best friend, Ilene, found work.
It was there she met Gordon Nedland. After Gordon’s four years overseas with the Princess Patricia Riflemen, they were married in March, 1946 and moved to Saskatchewan.
It was in the Canwood & Blue Heron District they spent 12 years and the first three children were born, Jack, Judy, and Barbara. In 1956, they moved to Dawson Creek and three more children were born, Barry, Patti, and Paula.
In 1983, after the passing of Gordon, Shirley still enjoyed travel and made many visits back to Ontario, Vancouver Island, and to New Zealand.
Shirley was very interested in world affairs, and made many comments on the many places she had seen and what was happening in those places.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 1983; parents, Gladys Gillies (1963) and Jack Gillies (1986); sister, Ardell Brigham (July, 2005); and brother, Harley Gillies (January, 2010).
Shirley is survived by her six children, their spouses, and grandchildren; sister, Gladys Smith of Emo, Ont.; sister-in-law, Mabel Gillies of Courtenay, B.C.; and many nieces and nephews who will miss the phone calls, pictures, and letters.
Rest in peace, Aunt Shirley. We love and miss you.
