After a long, hard-fought battle with cancer, Sheryl Lynne Douglas, 48, left us all, peacefully, on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.
With family at her side, our daughter, sister, and wonderful mother went to be with the Lord.
Sheryl was the first of three children born to Malcolm and Ruby Douglas on Dec. 28, 1967 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances Ont.
Ruby Douglas, Sheryl’s amazing and loving mother, recently predeceased her (2014), along with her first husband, Steve Ladsten (1991).
Sheryl attended Grades 1-3 at McIrvine Elementary School, as well as Walker Elementary (Grades 4-8) and Westfort (Grade 9), before graduating from Fort Frances High School in 1985 with her many friends.
After high school, Sheryl also attended Marvel Beauty School in Winnipeg Man., as well as the Registered Nurse program at La Verendrye Hospital.
Following her father’s footsteps, Sheryl enjoyed several years working at Gillons’ Insurance in Fort Frances until her second marriage to Dennis Cook, where she became the loving and amazing mother to the loves of her life: daughter, Keely Shaye, 19, and her son, Cameron, 16.
While growing up, Sheryl had many interests. She tried and enjoyed many things, including 4-H, swimming, bowling, and music, and toured across the country with the Fort Frances Children’s Choir with her brother, Sean.
Sheryl was an amazing person and always was smiling, laughing, or encouraging her children, family, and friends.
She was so happy and thankful for her recent “surprise Christmas party,” where she got to spend time with her high school friends and family.
Sheryl is survived by her father, Malcolm; brother, Sean (Kim, Brady, Baker, and Baylee); sister, Sheila; her children, Keely Shaye and Cameron; husband, Dennis Cook; half-siblings, Donald, Carrol, and Sandra; aunts and uncles, Allan (Shelly) Douglas, Fraser Douglas, Judy McQuarie, Bradley (Diane) Brannan, Marjorie (Wilmer) Stang, and Delores (Dougly) Livingston; as well as numerous cousins.
A service of celebration will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
The pallbearers will be Dave Bone, Shane Guimond, Derek West, Mark Fairnington, Duane Cridland, and Tony Armstrong.
The honourary pallbearers will be Laura Lee Jewell, Heather DeGagne, Shelly VanUden, Barbara McMillian, Jill Flamand, and Taunia Klem.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
