Sheri Lea Stamarski, 49, of Burriss, Ont., passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Sheri was born April 14, 1963 in Fort Frances.
In her early years, she attended and graduated from Confederation College with diplomas in Hotel Management and Business. Over the years, she had devoted her time to the Women’s Institute Pioneer Museum as curator, the Burriss Women’s Institute as president, and the area W.I. as Tweedsmuir curator.
On March 13, 1994, Sheri was united in marriage to Dale Stamarski.
She took great pride in her love of gardening, canning, baking, and preparing meals for her family and friends, and sold her prepared goods at the farmers’ market.
Sheri was on the school council to the district schools, and went over and above in fundraising and volunteering her time at community events. She also was very involved with the centennial celebrations in La Vallee and Burriss Townships.
Sheri received from the provincial government a 15-year pin for her volunteer work.
Her life was always busy, and she enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas and Arizona, where she loved spending her time with her husband seeing sights and watching the NASCAR races.
At home, Sheri loved children and had operated a day care centre for many years. She will be missed very much by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by brother, Phil McCoy; brother-in-law, Duane Stamarski; and mother- and father-in-law, Mildred and Stanley Stamarski.
Sheri is survived by her parents, John and Henrietta McCoy; husband, Dale Stamarski of Burriss, Ont.; children, Rodney (Holly), Danielle (Nathan), and Bobbi (Ryan) Wyder, Jeremy (Karen) McCoy, and Jonathan McCoy; and grandchildren, Jameer, Dominic, Lilly, Rose, Tala, and Sam.
She also is survived by her brothers, Jerry (Jacquie) McCoy and Mike (Beverly) McCoy; sister, Patti (Lard) Larson; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Carolyn) Stamarski, and Michael Stamarski (Kimberley Lauder); sisters-in-law, Dianne McCoy, and Pat Stamarski; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Rev. Barbara Miller officiated, with interment in Burriss Cemetery in Burriss.
The pallbearers were Rhonda McKay, Katie Leininger, June Whalen, Jeanne Stevens, Deb Cornell, and Annie van Rozen.
The honourary pallbearers were Sheri’s friends from the W.I. Pioneer Museum, the farmers’ market, and the Women’s Institute.
