Sharon Tibbs, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 with her family by her side.
Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
Sharon was born Aug. 12, 1943 in Fort Frances to Vivian (Mallory) and Fred Carter. Sharon was a bright student and enjoyed language studies.
She received several awards for spoken poetry in 1956 and 1957. Her greatest achievement was in Grade 8 when she won the prestigious Rose Bowl award for spoken poetry.
Sharon attended Fort Frances High School, where her skills were put to use on the SCC, Yearbook committee, and the school newspaper.
After graduating Fort Frances High School with honours, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Martin Tibbs, on April 7, 1962.
Sharon worked for Bell Canada, the BIA, Rainy River District School Board, and the Town of Fort Frances. She was a member of Fort Frances Curling Club, T.O.P.S., K.O.P.S., and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Sharon was very passionate about her community and committed to making it a better place to live.
Sharon is survived by her husband and three children, son, Dean, and daughters, Sandra and Barbara (Stainke); daughter-in-law, Colleen (Baldwin); son-in-law, Chris Stainke; and grandchildren, Riley Tibbs, Sam Tibbs, Claire Tibbs, Connor Tibbs, Emma Stainke, and Harrison Stainke.
Also surviving are two brothers, Lorne and Scott Carter, and 12 nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Norberto Eyule officiating.
Lunch will follow the service.
The honourary pallbearers will be Sharon’s grandchildren, Riley Tibbs, Sam Tibbs, Claire Tibbs, Connor Tibbs, and Emma Stainke.
