To the shock of family and friends,
Sharon Anna Mae Morken
died suddenly on July 17, 2006 in Kenora,
Sharon was born on May 9, 1955 to Alvin and Eileen Alexander of Stratton, Ontario. Sharon grew up on the family farm north of Stratton with her four older siblings, Fred Alexander, Eleanor Morken, Evelyn Fisher and Lawrence Alexander. She enjoyed being outdoors and caring for the animals on the farm.
Sharon attended Rainy River High School until she met her first love, Donald Morken. Sharon and Don were married on January 27, 1973 and had two children, Lyle Don and Shari Victoria. They enjoyed five years together until Don’s accidental death in October of 1978.
On September 9, 1983, Sharon married William Mowe and moved to Kenora. She loved to go camping, fishing and canoeing on the beautiful lakes and cherished time spent on their property on Crow Lake.
Sharon was a very creative person with a love for all things rustic and simple. She made many beautiful works of pottery and folk art. She had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed good times with family. Canoeing adventures with her cousin Penny, sharing a beer with her dad, shopping and chatting with her daughter and sisters, exchanging craft ideas with her mother, being silly with her nieces and nephews or watching the antics of her grandson, Matthew, always made her smile.
For the past ten years, Sharon’s best friend and constant companion was her black labrador retriever dog, “Duke.” He brought her enormous joy and comfort.
Sharon was extremely proud of her children and loved them wholeheartedly. The loss of her son Lyle, in April of 2004, broke her heart. Sharon endured many challenges in her life, yet she continued to perservere (at times solely for the benefit of her children) and looked forward to the possibility of a better, more peaceful life. May her friends and family fi nd comfort knowing that she has found peace at last. She will always be loved and missed by many.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Stratton Millennium Hall at 1 p.m. with Carolyn Kreger offi ciating. Sharon’s final resting place will be next to Don and Lyle in the Stratton Municipal Cemetery.
Should family and friends so desire, in memoriam, donations may be made to a humane society for animals.
