SEULANGE ROSALIE ‘SALLY’ GILL

Seulange Rosalie “Sally” Gill, 89, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.
Sally was born May 5, 1920 in Vassar, Man. to the late Paul and Cecile Carpenter. In 1937, she was united in marriage to Peder Pederson.
Sally was a servant for many people throughout her lifetime. Her heart was always for her family first. She was the best cook–a ready meal whenever you dropped in to visit and every holiday she had a feast (the date cookies will never be forgotten).
Her hands worked diligently for the little town we grew up in. She cleaned and painted homes, was a hairdresser to all, washed and ironed clothes for people, and did many other tasks that everyone needed—all to keep her family in the best care.
The one activity she did enjoy was curling–and she was good at it.
Her husband, Peder, predeceased her in 1970.
In 1986, Sally married Frances Calvin “Cal” Gill. Later in her years with Cal, she was in the tourist trade and loved to go to Arizona in the winter.
She became an avid walker. She also loved her church and walked there many a day to pray.
Her husband, Cal, predeceased her in 1996.
Love you forever, love you for always. She will be missed as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and Nana Sal.
Sally is survived by her five children, Paul (Lorraine) Pederson of Stephenville, Nfld., Beverly (George) Mylenchuk of Fort Frances, Ont., Oliver (Edith) Pederson of Cornerbrook, Nfld., Thelma (Cecil) Ogden of Emo, Ont., and Garry Pederson of Amherstberg, Ont..; nine grandchildren, Joanne, Paulette, Peder and Laura, Thelma, Lee and Lana, and Roben and Liane; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Cody, Matthew, Andrew and Kaitlyn, Andrew, Jesse, Meagan and Billy, Jordan, and Tori and Emma.
She also is survived by one brother, Maurice (Carol) Carpenter of Prince George, B.C.; five sisters, Angela (Harold) Anderson of Prince George, B.C., Aurise Gerhard of Fort Frances, Ont., Olive (Bob) Gouliquer of Arbor Vitae, Ont., Olivine (Dwayne) McMillan of Winnipeg, Man., and Virginia (Grant) Hebert of Winnipeg, Man.; one sister-in-law, Kristine Carpenter of Arbor Vitae, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also was predeceased by two brothers, Leo Carpenter and Andrew Carpenter; three sisters, Eugenie Marceau, Arbella Hamill, and Priscilla Baisley; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Anderson and Thane Gerhard.
Cremation took place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held at a later date.
