SARAH BETTY MEDICINE
Sarah Betty Medicine, 68, of Rainy River First Nation, Ont., passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born Dec. 15, 1938 in Emo, Ont. to the late Dave Medicine and Maggie. Sarah later married Donald Medicine and together raised their family.
Sarah had lived in Brandon, Man., but resided most of her life at Rainy River First Nation. She loved travlleing and had been to several areas throughout Canada.
At home, she enjoyed sewing, riding her bike, dancing at pow-wows, and visiting with family and friends. She also had a great love for her family, especially her two new great-grandchildren.
Sarah was a very kind and generous person, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends alike.
She was predeceased her husband, Donald Medicine; her son, Dale Medicine; her brother, Gordon Hawk, and two sisters, Bella Indian and Sally Cowley.
She leaves behind her five children, Leda Medicine of Saskatchewan, Donald Medicine and wife, Wendy, and Arnold Medicine, all of Brandon, Man., Timothy Medicine and Angie Jim of Seine River First Nation, Ont., and Glen Medicine and wife, Cindy, of Rainy River First Nation, Ont.; one daughter-in-law, Shelly Bone of Winnipeg, Man.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by three sisters, Lucy and husband, Henry Copenace, of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont., Annie Hawk, and Annabelle Hawk and Terry Godin, all of Rainy River First Nation, Ont.; one brother, Robert Medicine and wife, Liza, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held Monday, March 5, 2007 in the evening at the Rainy River First Nation gymnasium.
A traditional burial ritual will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the morning at the Rainy River First Nation gymnasium. Elder Harry Windigo will officiate, with burial in the Rainy River First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Conrad Bone, Donald Medicine, Sean Smith, Tyson Indian, Charles Cook, and Jonathon Hawk.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of her friends.
