It is with great sadness that the family of Sandra Mae Pruys, 67, announces her passing on Monday, March 7, 2022, at the La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Sandy was born on March 29, 1954, in Fort Frances to Norman and Shirley Huntley. She lived in Fort Frances all her life and was united in marriage to Herman Pruys on May 4, 1974. She worked at the Safeway Bakery and was a cosmetician for many years at Pharmasave. Sandy will be remembered by many for her volunteerism. She volunteered at her daughters’ schools over the years, was a Brownie leader, coached Special Olympics and helped out in La Verendrye Hospital Tuck Shop. She spent over 25 years with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary in various roles including Sergeant at Arms, Vice President, Funeral Luncheon Chair, and spent endless hours in the kitchen cooking for many, many events. She also enjoyed making ceramics, crafting, collecting antiques, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Herman; daughters Krista and Melanie and husband Stewart; grandchildren Jade, Jonah, Marcus, David, Matt, Brent; and brothers David (Barbara), Alvin and Don (Heather); sister Sharlene; brothers-in-law Willie (Linda) and Rick (Cheryl); sisters-in-law Anne (Everett), Nettie (Eric), Marianne (Russ) and Sylvia (Don); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents Norman and Shirley Huntley; in-laws Frans and Mary Pruys; granddaughter Heidi; and brothers-in-law Karl and Joe.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29, Fort Frances. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for everyone over 12.
The honourary pallbearers will be the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxiliary.
