SAMMY KABATAY (Paa-pa-no-ting)

Sammy passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at his home in Stanjikoming First Nation, Ontario.
He was born May 6, 1927 at Seine River First Nation to Aggie Wayash and Pete Kabatay. Sammy was a “crack shot” trapper, river driver, logger, guide, and high-steel rigger. Paa-pa-no-ting was an accomplished craftsman, fiddler, and enjoyed going to various pow-wows with his hoop-dancing abilities.
He is survived by his sister, Agnes Kabatay, and will be sadly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews.
Sammy was predeceased by his brothers Ed, Ray, Tony, and Ben Kabatay; sisters Annie, Bertha, Emma, Edith, Mary and Elsie Kabatay.
Traditional services will be held at Seine River First Nations Gymnasium on Sunday July 9, 2006 in the morning. Elder Harry Windigo will officiate with interment in the Seine River First Nation Cemetery.
A wake will be held at the Seine River First Nations Gymnasium on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 4 p.m.
The active pallbearers will be Jason Kabatay, Anthony Kabatay, Glen Johnson, Gerald Kabatay, Tyron Kabatay, Stacy Kabatay, Jonathan Kabatay, John Kabatay, Steve Spencer, Denis Spencer, Clarence Johnson, and Nathan Boshkasykin.
The honourary pallbearers will be Alfred Kabatay, Albert Cochrane, Art Ottertail, Norm Peters, and Mike Kabatay.
