It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Ramona Gresko (nee Dickson) announces her passing on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at her home in Rainycrest Long Term-Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was 84, and had her family by her side when she passed away.
Ruth was born June 7, 1930 in Fort Frances and grew up here. In 1957, she moved to Atikokan, Ont. with her family and they remained there until 1974, when they settled in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Ruth had worked as a nurse’s aide at both Hogarth Hospital and St. Joseph’s Heritage until 1984, when an injury forced her to retire.
Ruth loved to spend time at home with her family, cooking and baking for them whenever she could. She truly loved being at home, working in her garden.
She even continued to garden after she moved into Rainycrest.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Donna (Pat) MacNeil, Barbara (Jack) Witiluk, and Janet Margarit (Travis Northcott); grandchildren, Jennifer, Darryl (Tara), and Adam MacNeil, Jeff (Karen) and Ryan (Christine) Witiluk, and Trevor, Corey, and Nicole Margarit; and great-grandchildren, Jacey, Kaylee, Mason, Meya, Jacob, Cole, Crue, Nora, and Violet.
Also surviving are her sisters, Norma Hagen, Mary Gustafson, Noreen Barker, and Doreen (Frank) DeBenedet; brother, George Barrett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her son, Gordy Dickson on Sept. 17, 2014; and earlier by her first husband, Gordon Dickson; second husband, Phil Gresko; her parents and her brother, Donald Barrett.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Habourview Funeral Centre in Thunder Bay, officiated by Rev. Susan Ivany of Westminster United Church.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society (Thunder Bay chapter) or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
