Ruth Naoma Caul (nee Perkins), 98, of Riverside Long-Term Care in Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
Ruth was born Monday, Oct. 26, 1914 in Conway, N.D. to the late Morris and Doris Perkins. She moved to Rainy River District at a young age.
Ruth was united in marriage to Clarence on Nov. 14, 1935. Together they lived and raised their children in Devlin and Blackhawk, Ont. In their later years, they resided in Emo, Ont.
Ruth loved to cook and bake. She was famous for her canned berries, and her dill pickles were the best and were brought to all family gatherings. There always was baking ready for visitors.
You had to be prepared to eat—it didn’t matter what time of day you stopped for a visit. Ruth would put out goodies or often the whole meal. Nobody went away hungry.
Ruth also enjoyed knitting and sewing. Many of family or friends were the happy recipient of her handiwork. She made doll clothing and doll furniture for the granddaughters. Knitted socks and mitts were given as gifts. Quilts and pillow cases were provided for weddings, birthdays, and babies.
Ruth’s pride and joy was her vegetable and flower gardens. She proudly showed her flowers to all who visited and no one could ever leave without a bouquet.
Ruth also was always ready to share her hugs. She would squeeze you so tight she would lift you off the ground. A person could never get enough of those hugs.
Her greatest treasure of all was family.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Bill and wife, LaVerne, of Blackhawk, Ont. and Wilmer of Mine Centre, Ont.; and one daughter, Ellaine and husband, Ronald Croswell, of Thunder Bay, Ont.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
