Ruby McCoy

Ruby McCoy, 81, of 275 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully at La Verendrye General Hospital on Sunday, June 9, 2002 with her family by her side.
She was born June 22, 1920 in La Vallee, Ont. to the late Archie and Mabel Topham. On Sept. 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Walter B. McCoy.
Following their marriage, Ruby was active with her husband operating family businesses in several towns in Western Canada. In 1974, Ruby returned to school, which enabled her to start a new career as admitting receptionist at La Verendyre General Hospital.
She enjoyed her many years of employment, as well as friendships with colleagues, in this position until her retirement.
In her early years, Ruby was an avid athlete and loved playing baseball. In later years, she found great pleasure travelling, playing cards with friends, going to the cabin, and attending Birthday Club.
Reading was her favourite pastime, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Walter Topham; and infant granddaughter, Stacey McCoy.
Ruby is survived by her son, Larry McCoy and wife, Marilyn, of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, JoAnn DeGagne of Atikokan, Ont.; five grandchildren, Melanie and husband, Bob Mathieson, Corey McCoy and wife, Anne, and Lauren McCoy, all of Fort Frances, Ont., abd Ann Marie and husband, Tim Tuusa, and Shawn DeGagne and wife, Melissa, all of Atikokan, Ont.; and four great-grandchildren, Noah, Paige, Simone, and Callie.
She also is survived by one brother, Fred Topham and wife, Rita, of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 14, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, with Pastor Garth Clifford officiating.
