RUBY BERNICE SISCO

Ruby Bernice Sisco, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye Hospital here on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 with her family by her side.
Bernice was born April 1, 1921 to the late Maurice and Stella Neilson, the second of eight children. On Jan. 20, 1940, she married Paul Richard Sisco and together they farmed in North Branch, Ont. and later in Stratton, Ont.
Bernice (“Grandma Bernie”) was a hard worker all of her life. Besides working at Rainycrest in the laundry and kitchen for many years, she also worked at Canada Car in Thunder Bay, Ont. building airplanes during the Second World War.
She loved to garden, knit, crochet, and sew, and won many prizes at the Emo Fair for her handiwork.
There are many warm hands in the district wearing mittens she knit that they bought at the local farmers’ market. Also, many warm little hands from mittens she donated to the Salvation Army.
Neighbours knew the coffee pot was always on at Bernie’s house and there was usually fresh bread and cinnamon buns to go with it.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Art; brother-in-law, Bob Kivi; husband, Paul on Feb. 12, 1996; and son, Randy on July 27, 2000.
Bernice is survived by daughters, Brenda (Lynn) Richardson and Paula (Ernie) Tibold, both of Devlin, Ont., and sons, Clint (Kathy) Sisco and Ken (Brenda) Sisco, both of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Lynda Richardson, Kim (Raymond) Roy, Kathy (Rick) Diotte, Jamie (Karen) Richardson, Mike (Lucie) Richardson, Bob (Anne) Richardson, Sherri (Todd) Halverson, Wayne (Denise) Tibold, Rick Tibold, Terri (John) McKay, Clint Sisco, and Levi (Amber), Matt, and Dakota Sisco; and great-grandchildren, Dani and Trenton Richardson, Jordan and Lindsay Roy, Jeremy Richardson, Patrick and Randi Richardson, Emily Richardson, Jenna and Erik Halverson, Shayne and Hannah Tibold, and Brady and Colby McKay.
She also is survived by brothers, Moie (Marj) Neilson, Garnett (Vivian) Neilson, Carman (Lou) Neilson, and Keith (Grace) Neilson; sisters, Thelma (Walter) Hanson and Dixie Kivi; and sister-in-law, Kay Neilson.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with the funeral service on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton United Church in Stratton.
She will be laid to rest beside Paul in the North Branch Cemetery in the spring.
Pallbearers were sons, Clint Sisco and Ken Sisco, sons-in-law, Lynn Richardson and Ernie Tibold, and special “son,” Gordon Sisco. Honourary pallbearers were her brothers, Moie, Garnett, Carmen, and Keith Neilson, and sisters, Thelma Hanson and Dixie Kivi.
Mom, you were our rock, our anchor, and our greatest supporter, and loved us unconditionally. You will be with us the rest of our lives.
Always loved and sadly missed by your family.
