ROY C. TINKESS

Another proud veteran has left us.
Roy Tinkess passed away peacefully at his home in Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008.
Roy was born Aug. 24, 1922 in Mirror Lake. B.C. His family then moved to Regina, Sask. when Roy was a young lad.
Roy served his country during WWII. It was while he was in the service that he met his future wife, Alice May Godin.
After their time in the army, they returned to Fort Frances to begin their lives together. Roy then began his career at the Rainy River District School Board, first as a janitor and then a high school teacher. He also became a legendary drivers’ training teacher. People still say “Oh, Mr. Tinkess taught me to drive.”
Upon his retirement, Roy and Alice spent their summers at Kakagi (Crow) Lake and winters in Arizona.
In 2005, Roy was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Alice May Tinkess.
Roy is survived by their four children, Stan and wife, Julie Ricard, Gail and husband, Russel Tonkin, Nancy and husband, Bill Bone, and Bob and wife, Jan.
He also is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lila, of White Rock, B.C.
Roy was a kind, gentle, and very patient man. He was a devoted husband and father—his family was his life. His greatest pleasures were being with Alice and family, and travelling around the country.
We love you and miss you. Drive on, Dad.
As per Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held a later date.
