It is with great sadness that the family of Rosie Cyr announces her passing on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born Nov. 11, 1932 in Miitanjikoming First Nation, Ont. to Charlie and Ahwaaybiik McDonald.
She lived most of her life there before settling in Naicatchewenin First Nation; she was a proud member of the Caribou Clan.
She was married to Louis Cyr in 1956.
Rosie worked for various camps, as well as tree-planting. She enjoyed being outdoors, as well as canoeing, harvesting wild rice, and picking blueberries.
She also enjoyed going to Bingos and attending pow-wows, and was well-known for making jingle dresses.
Rosie was predeceased by her parents; husband, Louis; brothers, Alphone Smith and Paul Smith; sisters, Helen Morrison and Florence McDonald; as well as grandson, Jeffrey Cyr.
She leaves behind her sons, Raymond (Doreen) and Russell (Sally); daughters, Roseanna and Marcella (Clarence); stepchildren, Edna and Joe Quaquot; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A traditional wake and funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at the Naicatchewenin First Nation gymnasium, with Elder Billy Blackwell officiating.
Interment took place in the Naicatchewenin First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Jason Susin, Orville Councillor, Ernie Morrison Sr., Ernie Morrison Jr., Kenny Morrison, and Dwayne Morrison.
The honourary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren.
