RONALD MCGINNIS

Ronald McGinnis (Pikoojigwiiwizens) of Manitou Rapids, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital at the age of 65. He was born in Manitou Rapids on March 27, 1941.
Ronald was a very loving and loyal family man. He was a husband, father and grandfather who generously devoted his life and time to his wife Annie and his children.
He beamed with pride when he spent time with his grandchildren. Ronald loved the PowWow Trail where he made many friends. His travels took him to many gatherings in the United States and Canada, from as far away as Toronto and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was given the gift to make Traditional Regalia and was well known throughout the Anishinaabe Territory for his work. He was very respected by his many nieces and nephews who he always found time to help and to give them that nod of acknowledgement. He was a role model for his children whom he groomed with strong ethics and principles. He had worked in the logging industry all his life in the United States and Canada. Today, his sons also work in the logging industry.
He leaves behind his wife Annie, children Roberta (Lawrence Alan Vanwert Sr.), Merlin, Wynn, Larry, Carolyn, Dwayne, beloved grandchildren December Skye and Lawrence Allan Jr., a brother Norman McGinnis and a sister Jean Anderson, also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by daughter, Doreen, in 1974, sisters, Lizzie in 1978 and Alice in 2004, and his mother Margaret, in 1986.
A wake will be held at the Manitou Rapids Gymnasium on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 from 4 p.m. with a Traditional Burial to follow on Thursday, May 5, 2005. Elder Gilbert Smith will officiate.
The pallbearers will be Wes DeBungee, Robin McGinnis, Lawrence Vanwert Sr., Marty Wilson, Justin McGinnis, Derek Shebagegit and H. Sonny McGinnis.
In lieu of flowers in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 655, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 920 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N4.
