Ronald Mansfield “Ron” Hyatt, 72, of R.R. #2, Devlin, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997 at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1925 in the Municipality of La Vallee, Ont. to the late James and Bertha Hyatt.
Ron lived his entire life in the Devlin area, working in the Fort Frances paper mill for 37 years. He also had farmed in the district for a number of years.
He was a veteran of World War II, having spent 593 days overseas. He served with the Fort Garry Horse Regiment as a tank operator from 1943 to 1946, and received the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medals.
Ron remained active after his retirement with his favourite hobbies of fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
Ron will be greatly missed by his surviving family, his wife, Hazel, and children, Peggy and husband, Ron Matysio, of Dryden, Trudy and husband, Charlie Loveday, of Emo, Carl Hyatt and wife, Debi, of Dryden, Sandra Paterson of Hamilton, Richard Hyatt of Barrie, Dennis Hyatt and wife, Anitta, of Dryden, Wendy and husband, Glen Tibbs, of Dryden, Michelle and husband, Brent Silander, of Fort Frances, Phyllis Falcigno, Carol Nilsson, Ronalda Odland, Norreen Mullatt, and Dorreen Roakes.
Also surviving are his brothers, Stan Hyatt and wife, Verna, of Dryden, Marshall Hyatt and wife, Mona, of Fort Frances, and James Hyatt of Devlin; his sister, Joan and husband, Jim Daw, of Emo; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Bertha Hyatt; his brother, Carl Hyatt; and sister, Daisy Whitehead.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Box Alder Cemetery in Box Alder, Ont.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 “Colour Party” performed their Legion Tribute following the funeral service.
Pallbearers were Charlie Loveday, Ron Matysio, Glen Tibbs, Brent Silander, Mike Elias, and Paul Bujold.
