With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Ronald Edward Redford, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at the age of 91.
He was born May 14, 1923 to the late Stephen and Edith Redford on the family farm in Emo Township.
At the age of 19, he joined the army and proudly served for more than three years in Canada, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles.
After returning home from WWII, he farmed and owned and operated gravel and logging trucks with his brothers, Steve and Don. Ron also worked for many years in the paper mill as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1987.
Ron married Wylma Brown on May 15, 1954 in Fort Frances, Ont. He always told the family that he married the love of his life and was the luckiest man to have such a beautiful girl.
Ron and Wylma were very active in their church, enjoyed camping with friends and family, and spending time outdoors. He always enjoyed spending time tinkering in the garage and working on his Fords.
Ron loved his family more than anything, and will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Wylma; children, Cheryl (Brian) Jowett of Roseau River, Man. and Ronda (Greg) Green of Duluth, Mn.; as well as his grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle, and Kelsey, who adored their grandfather.
He also will be sadly missed by his brother, Delbert Redford; and sisters-in-law, Irene Redford, Edie Brown, and Betty (Jack) Toews.
He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were also his “kids.”
Ron was predeceased by his brothers, Russell (in infancy), Steve and wife, Ethel, and Don; sister, Ruth (Ed) Gunderson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Brown and Myrtle (Jack) Armstrong; and brothers-in-law, Leo (Alice), Doug Brown, Alvin Brown (Shirley), and Stan (Doris) Brown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor David Groff officiating.
Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
The pallbearers will be Alf Redford, Ron Redford, John Redford, Paul Redford, Rocky Brown, and Bernie Martens.
