Ronald Berry, 88, of 219 Third St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, July 12, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born April 8, 1911 in Tauton, England to the late Edward and Elizabeth Berry. At the age of 13, Ronald moved with his family to Canada and settled in Manitoba, where they resided until moving to Fort Frances in 1927.
On Feb. 15, 1936, he was united in marriage to the former Sainta Bolzan.
Ronald worked as a journeyman electrician for local contractors in the area for 40 years, until his retirement in 1976. He enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Rocky Inlet on Rainy Lake, fishing, playing cards, and teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish safely.
He loved his family very much, and was known by his children and grandchildren as Mr. Fixit as he could repair just about anything.
He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Barbara Berry.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Sainta Berry of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, Edward (Ted) Berry of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, Sheila and husband, Howard Fanjoy, of Espanola, Ont.; eight grandchildren, Julie and husband, Rick Barber, of Smiths Falls, Ont., David Berry and wife, Shana, of Fort Frances, Ont., Susan and husband, Randy Shortreed, of Watten Twp., Ont., Douglas Berry of Fort Frances, Ont., Tricia and husband, Ted Gardiner, of Kingston, Ont., Brian Fanjoy of Ottawa, Ont., Lisa Fanjoy of Espanola, Ont., and Greg Fanjoy of Bracebridge, Ont.; six great-grandchildren, T.J. Barber, Meagan, Jillian and Celia Berry, and Ryan and Katelyn Shortreed; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Friday, July 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Garth Clifford officiating.
Honourary pallbearers were Brian Fanjoy, Greg Fanjoy, David Berry, Douglas Berry, Randy Shortreed, and Ted Gardiner.
