RON ORTON

Ron Orton, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 at the Rainy River Health Centre at the age of 89.
He was born on April 20, 1929 in Birmingham, England.
After the end of WWII, Ron enlisted with the R.A.F. and was posted to Germany, where he was proud to have been involved in the Berlin Airlift.
Ron and his wife, Lynne, emigrated to Canada in the 1950s, settling in Hamilton, Ont., where he was employed for many years at the Stelco steel mill. It was here that Ron became a ardent life-long supporter of the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Following his retirement, Ron and Lynne purchased a home on Highway 621 and relocated to Northwestern Ontario, where they spent many enjoyable years.
In addition to his passion for Canadian football, baseball, and hockey, Ron had a great interest in classic movies, the music of the 1940s and ’50s, and history.
He was an avid reader, particularly of crime novels, and he possessed a tremendous knowledge of trivia.
Since his boyhood days in England, Ron has had a love of fishing and he eagerly anticipated the start of fishing season each spring. He continued to fish right up until his illness this past summer.
After Lynne’s passing, Ron moved to his apartment in Heritage Place. He will be missed by his many friends in Rainy River and across the district, as well as by his extended family in England.
Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Ron’s wishes, no memorial service will be held.
