Ron Graham

Ron Graham passed away suddenly on February 18, 2002 at Rainycrest, Fort Frances after a lengthy illness.
Ron was born in Edam, Saskatchewan on January 29, 1931 to Helen and Ernest Graham. As a boy, Ron and his family moved to Barrie, Ontario. There, Ron eventually met and married his wife, Joyce Walton.
Ron began working for Ontario Hydro in 1952, and through Hydro transferred to Fort Frances. In Fort Frances they made many wonderful friends and were involved in league bowling and spent many weekends camping.
In 1970, Ron fulfilled a long-time dream of owning a farm. This was later advanced with the purchase of a larger farm, leaving Hydro (after 25 years), to raise Hereford cattle and working part-time as a guard at the Fort Frances jail.
Prior to retiring from farming, Ron was diagnosed with, and overcame prostate cancer.
Ron loved camping, farming, working outdoors, woodworking, playing cards and throwing
horseshoes. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a deep love for his family.
In 1990, Ron and Joyce bought a cabin in Bergland and spent many happy days fishing, renovating, having bonfires and watching the river. Ron was always busy working outdoors making or repairing things.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Ernest Graham, brothers Roy and Bernie Graham, and grandson Isaac Gregory.
Ron is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Patti (Doug) McTavish, Leanne (Lee) Donaldson, Lisa (Brian) Gregory; grandchildren, Adam, Kyle and Craig McTavish, Jason and Justin Donaldson, Danielle Gregory; sister, Marjorie (Len) Patterson; brothers, Fred Graham, Harold (Lorraine) Graham, Cliff (Maggie) Graham, Terry (Carol) Graham, sister-in-law Grace Graham, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although in many ways Ron left us months ago, we will remember him as he was, a warm, loving husband, father and grandfather with a ready joke or smile for everyone.
A memorial service was conducted by Reverend Frances Flook at Guthrie United Church in Devlin, Ontario Saturday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m.
Honourary pallbearers were Ron’s grandchildren; Adam, Kyle and Craig McTavish, Jason and Justin Donaldson, and Danielle Gregory.
