RODERICK WILFRED ‘ROD’ CYR
Roderick Wilfred Cyr peacefully went home to be with the Lord at the age of 90 on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007.
Rod was born May 28, 1916 at Naicatchewenin First Nation, Ont. to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Cyr. He had lived all his life in Rainy River District.
He had worked as a firefighter for the MNR and as a logger for Gerald Armstrong. He also had worked at the sawmill for Vern, and as a carpenter and commercial fisherman.
His hobbies included watching hockey, boxing, baseball, listening to Gospel music, and attending church faithfully.
Rod was united in marriage on July 26, 1956 to the former Lucy Smith, who survives along with their children, Bud Cyr of Naicatchewenin First Nation, Mary (Ray) Jourdain of Couchiching First Nation, Mabel Cyr and Norman Cyr, both of Naicatchewenin First Nation, and Wilfred (Dorothy) Cyr of Cass Lake, Mn.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Carolyn and Gary Jourdain, both of Couchiching First Nation, Brad Jourdain of Fort Frances, Pam Cyr of Naicatchewenin First Nation, Wilfred Cyr Jr., and Shane and Charles Wood, all of Cass Lake, Mn.; nine great-grandchildren, Deanna, Christine, Shane, Jonah, and Christian Cyr of Naicatchewenin First Nation, Dawson, Mikaylah, and Lily Jourdain of Fort Frances, and Bobbi-Jo Johnson of international Falls, Mn.; nieces, Delia (Gilbert) and Irene; nephews, Gerald, Fred (Eliza), and Kelvin; and other numerous relatives and friends in the community.
He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Elizabeth; four sisters, Mary Jane Cyr, Florence Cyr, Margaret Smith, and Ethel Cyr; two brothers, George and Howard Cyr; three nephews, Louis Cyr, Edward Smith, and Frank Smith; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline Nelson.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Naicatchewenin Community Hall at Naicatchewenin First Nation, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Friends may visit Friday, March 2, 2007 from 9-11 a.m. at the Naicatchewenin Community Hall.
Interment will take place at the Naicatchewenin Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Wayne Smith, Wesley Smith, Orville Smith, Gary Adams, Curtis Smith, Trevor Smith, and Don Smith.
The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
