ROBERTA MARY JACK (Waasekiimiigook)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Roberta Mary Jack (Waasekiimiigook) of the Anishinabeg of Naongashiing.
With family by her side, Roberta passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.
Roberta was born Feb. 16, 1952 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late William and Christina Jack.
She is survived by her loving spouse, Lennard Gibbons Sr.; sons, Lenny Gibbons Jr. of Big Island, Ont., Dustin Gibbons (Kelly) of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Stephen Jack of Toronto, Ont.; and adopted daughter, Leslie Gott, of Winnipeg, Man.
She also is survived by brothers, Stanley and Tom of Big Grassy, Ont., and Bradley (Charlene) of Winnipeg, Man.; sisters, Christine (Jerome) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Mary Anne (Carl) of Big Island, Ont., and Kathy (James) of Kenora, Ont.; grandchildren, Kevin, Courtney, Clarissa, Riley, Seth, and Noah; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Roberta was predeceased by her father, William; mother, Christina; son, Robert Douglas; and brother, Robert “Robby” Jack.
Roberta went to be with her Lord and Saviour after a lengthy battle with her illness. Throughout her battle, Roberta never lost her sense of humour, and remained positive and optimistic.
Roberta’s greatest joy was her family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She also loved fishing, attending pow-wows, and playing cards and Bingo. She enjoyed listening to music (especially Johnny Cash).
Roberta worked at various tourist resorts throughout her life.
The wake will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 from 3 p.m. at the Bergland Hall.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at 1 p.m., Pastor Wally Detweiler officiating.
Interment will follow at the Bergland Cemetery.
