ROBERTA JOAN GAGNE

Roberta Joan Gagne, 81, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care Facility, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at her residence.
Joan was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Guelph, Ont. to the late Robert and Bertha Cunningham and was raised in Milton, Ont., where she attended elementary and high school.
She later enrolled with the Hamilton General Hospital to train as a registered nurse. She worked for a time for the Public Health Department for the City of Toronto.
She later became a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and did public health nursing with them prior to moving to Fort Frances. She worked for a while for the Town of Fort Frances as a public health nurse and at La Verendrye General Hospital as a regular nurse.
She enjoyed reading and going to their cabin at the lake. Roberta also enjoyed the time she and Jack spent at their winter home in Jupiter, Fla.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Jack, of 56 years, whom she married on Sept. 11, 1954.
Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, Gordon Cunningham of Milton, Ont.; sister-in-law, Margaret Schneider of Santa Barbara, Calif. and her niece, Melinda, of New York City, N.Y.; and cousins, Mrs. Jackie Blow and June Doberthien, both of Milton, Doreen Nicklin of Guelph, Dorothy Hare of Camano Isle, Wash., and Karen Kinden of Georgetown.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Facility in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Joan’s family and friends.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
