It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert “Poke” Spencer (Zhaawna’gamiginang Ahtik Otooteman Caribou Clan), at the age of 73, at his residence on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015.
Robert was born Aug. 12, 1941 in Fort Frances, Ont. to the late Jack and Rose Spencer.
He lived all his life in the district. He had worked at logging, guiding, and trapping, and loved fishing and hunting.
He loved his nieces and nephews and all of the kids that knew him. He also loved spending times with his many friends who would drop in on him.
He was known to everyone as just “Uncle Poke.”
Robert is survived by his siblings, George Spencer (Agnes), Hilda Yerxa, Rose Spencer, Dave Spencer, and Steve Spencer (Susan); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Rose Spencer; sister, Margaret Spencer; a brother in infancy; and niece, Cindy Spoon.
A traditional funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 6, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium, with Gilbert Smith officiating.
Interment will take place in the Seine River First Nation Cemetery.
A funeral wake will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 from 3 p.m. at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium.
The pallbearers will be Robert’s family and friends.
