It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Michael Matthew, who passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife by his side on April 26, 2026.
Robert was born on October 13, 1961 in Baudette, Minnesota, to William and Bernice (nee Acthim) Matthew. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, humour, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl; his daughters, Jennifer (Cade) and Allyson (Robert); his sons, Michael and Alex; his cherished grandchildren, Braden, Jordy, Jace, Isabella, and Avery. He leaves behind his dog Bo who will miss his company. He is also survived by his sisters, Barb (Peter), Elizabeth (Joe), and Judy (Don), as well as his in-laws, Cliff and Lorraine McCormick.
Robert was a hardworking man who dedicated 35 years of service to the Paper Mill in Fort Frances. He also enjoyed working alongside his friend Allan Wolanicki at Sawbones and with his other friend Ken Vogan at Pelican Landing, where many memories were made.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and hunting, spending time at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods, and making treasured memories on family trips to Jamaica. He was a proud and devoted grandfather who rarely missed the chance to cheer on his grandsons at their hockey and baseball games. He also had a well-known love of scratch tickets, and was famously lucky at them.
Above all else, Robert will be remembered for his love of family, his big warm heart, and the many laughs he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
