ROBERT ‘LYNN’ CAIN

Cain, Robert Lynn

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Robert Lynn Cain announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.
Lynn was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on Jan. 30, 1947 to Lorraine and Clifford Cain. He was raised down Cain Road, on the family farm in Devlin, Ont., and always considered that home.
Over the past 30 years, Lynn had many an entertaining story to tell, about the “good ol’days” growing up as a “country boy” in the back 40. Many long-time friendships were made and remain to this day.
After graduating high school, Lynn worked for Einar’s Foods in Fort Frances, as well as a brief stint with Modern Plumbing. He then accepted a job at Boise Cascade, where he would spend the next 39 years with his “work family.”
Lynn worked various jobs in the mill before finding his niche. He took a pipefitter apprenticeship and always was proud of the fact he graduated from George Brown College with the Steamfitters Certificate.
People came and went in the mill but all seemed to know who “Chuck Wagon” was. Between the team working on shutdowns, the constant teasing, the Smear playing at noon, and the many side conversations throughout the day, there always was a story to be told.
The guys really knew how to yuck it up and all became life-long friends. As I write this, I can tell you your friendships meant the world to Lynn and he cherished each of you.
He retired as a Master Pipefitter Journeyman in 2003.
Lynn loved the game of baseball and was an avid player in his younger years. He also mastered the game of curling and spent many years skipping his team to victory.
When the time came, he threw in the towel and passed the torch to his right-hand man. He knew Rod would get the job done.
Lynn also was a life-long hunter and fisherman who took great pride teaching each one of his beloved children how to catch and clean a fish and shoot a gun. That skill then was passed down to their children and “Gramps” was elated.
Precious memories were made when the girls would bring their children out to teach them how to hunt deer in the back 40.
“Papa” always was so happy he could be a part of it. Spending time at the farm or the lake, whether at the cabin or trailer with all the family, was a treasure to behold. Campfires, marshmellows, and lots of good times were had by all.
The annual moose hunt always was a thrill and he was like a kid in a candy store. He looked so forward to that time spent with his special crew. He truly was a very lucky man and he never took that for granted.
Lynn was united in marriage to Linda Guimond, the mother of his three children, Tracy, Janet, and Clayton. In 1986, Lynn and Dana met and after several years of courtship, he embraced her daughter, Jill Foran, as his own.
Undeniably, his greatest joy was his family. Our kids and grandkids made him beam with pride. It was evident by the smile on his face and the twinkle in his eye each time he saw one, just how much he loved them.
Each one possessed a special spot in his heart.
Lynn will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dana; children, Tracy Cain (Terry Hrychuk), Janet Cain Holden, Clayton (Jennifer) Cain, and Jill Foran (Jesse Calder); grandchildren, Garret Cain, Shayanne, Shelby, and Ty Holden, Ashley, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Madalyn, and Cameron Cain, and Calleigh and Maxwell Calder; and precious great-granddaughter, Ava.
Lynn also will be lovingly remembered by his big sister, Joan Boudreau; brothers, Ken (Shirley) and Ron (Karen) Cain and their families; in-laws Joyce Clarke, Carla and Gordie Galbraith, and Janine and Ernie Cousineau and their families; and brother-in-law, Tom Foran.
Lynn always held a special place in his heart for son-in-law, Greg Holden.
Lynn was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Lorraine; brother-in-law, Dick Boudreau; and father-in-law, Dan Foran.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. at the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion Club Room (downstairs) to celebrate Lynn’s life.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
