ROBERT (‘BOB’) LEROY CUPP

ROBERT (‘BOB’) LEROY CUPP
With heavy hearts, the family of Robert Leroy Cupp announces his passing on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Dad was born Aug. 17, 1920 in Creelman, Sask. to Ruth and Don Cupp. He was the eldest son of seven children.
In 1937, Dad and his family moved and settled in Rainy River District. Dad participated in the social life of the community and at one of these events, he met the love of his life, Dorothea.
Dad enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941 and served in WW II as a cook on a “sweeper.” He continued this career at the HMCS Griffin until his discharge.
Mom and Dad were married June 7, 1944 at the Shaw farm in Stratton, Ont. As newlyweds, they lived in Thunder Bay, Ont. until his discharge, then moved to Fort Frances.
Dad was employed at Canada Post for 36 years, first as a letter carrier, then a supervisor. Years after his retirement, if we gave him a name, he could give us an address.
Dad always has been very involved in his community. He taught Scouting for many years, being awarded the Silver Acorn in 1971 (the highest award scouting offered).
He also was an active member of Knox United Church, the Canadian Order of Foresters, and the Royal Canadian Legion, where he received the Meritorious Service Award from the Legion in 2001.
A phone call to Bob would always find a willing volunteer.
Dad also loved to travel, and he and Mom took many trips, either alone or with family or friends. Carpentry was a hobby for Dad and he lovingly created heirlooms for his family.
Summer days would find Dad in the back yard, weeding the vegetables or tending to Mom’s roses.
Family was very important to Dad. He was always up for a good time and we shared many, many events as a family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dot; children, Louise (Ron), Rod (Lorraine), Wendy (Doug), and Ken (Pat); grandchildren, Rhonda (Tom), Jason (Laura), Marie Antoinette (Bryan), Heather (Robert), Aurora (James), Sarah, and Darren; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jared, Tyler, Nick, Travis, Tony, and Olivia.
As well, Dad is survived by sisters, June and Eileen; brother, Keith; sister-in-law, Helen; numerous nieces and nephews; and some very special friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. The Legion Colour Party was in attendance.
Visitation was held from 1-2 p.m.
Pallbearers were Dad’s nephews, Jim Scott, Wayne Warren, Mike Shaw, Alan Eide, and John Kirk.
Honourary pallbearers were Jim Barr, Roy Legarie, Barry Cox, Ed Haglund, and Gerry Wood.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the CT Scanner “Just Imagine” campaign.
Arrangements by Northridge Funeral Home.
