Sadly, the family announces the passing of Robert Victor Armstrong, 80, of Rainy River, Ont., on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Rainy River Health Centre with family by his side.
Bob was born May 23, 1934 in Sleeman, Ont. to Arthur and Elizabeth Armstrong.
He was united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1954 to Wilma Carroll of Sioux Lookout, Ont. They later moved to Fort William, Ont., where he began his career with the Fort William Police Department, retiring as a detective sergeant with 33 years’ service.
Bob was an avid outdoors enthusiast and known to be a Jack-of-all-trades. He also enjoyed spending time at his camp at Graham Lake with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma, of Rainy River, Ont.; daughters, Laureen (Andrew) Cordeiro and Diane Tetley of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and son, Robert (Lori) Armstrong of Pinewood, Ont.
Bob also will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Andrew (Lesley) Cordeiro, Jillian (Christopher) Courtis, and Michael Cordeiro (Amy), Mallory, Erin, and Dayna Tetley, and Kirsten Armstrong; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Griffin Courtis.
He also is survived by two sisters, Betty (Arnold) Brown and Marg (Rick) Ganyo; brother-in-law, Reg Kaus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his sister, Doreen Kaus.
A celebration of Bob’s life was held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment took place in Blue Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Bob’s grandchildren.
