RICK SELIN
Early Tuesday morning, April 19, 2005, Rick Selin, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Frances with his family by his side. Rick courageously fought cancer, keeping his sense of humour and spirit until the end.
Rick was born in Atikokan, Ontario February 7, 1956 to June and Elmer Selin. Rick is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Barrie Selin.
Rick married Sandra LaRoche in 1977. They settled in Fort Frances and had two children, Barrie and Carrie who were raised here as well.
Rick worked in our local paper mill for 30 years and more specifically in the Groundwood Department for most of his working career.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman with a fondness for fishing and hunting.
He loved to swim and dive and for a number of years was an inspection diver serving companies such as CN Rail.
Rick was a devoted family man and you could find him many a morning
with Carrie or Barrie at either hockey or figure skating. He took great pride in his children. He was the creator and ice man for the local neighbourhood rink, which all the kids in the neighbourhood enjoyed and still speak of today.
He loved to chat with the neighbours, while enjoying a cigar on his deck.
Rick will be missed terribly by his family and friends. Pugsy, his dog will certainly miss his four wheeler rides around the neighbourhood. His neighbours will miss him because he always gave a lending hand and kept the neighbourhood (young and old) laughing with his jokes and
unforgettable wit.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, his daughter, Carrie (Ian McKinnon, Winnipeg), and son, Barrie (Winnipeg).
Also surviving are brothers Doug (Diane), Wade (Nicole) of Kenora, Ronnie of Vancouver, B.C.; in-laws, Laurie and Alphonse LaRoche; brother-in-law, Roger (Lynne) Laroche, of Dryden; sisters-in-law, Lea Kropelin (Maurice), Paulin Ardon Wilson, Irene Degagne, Harvey Kropelin (Joycelline) and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Honourary pallbearers will be Brian Moen, Shaun Bagacki, Guy Avis, Ron Stuart, Tom Foley and Dave Egan.
Funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.
