Richard Pentney passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2015 in Oliver, B.C. at the age of 93.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frieda, in 2001; as well as three brothers and two sisters.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his sons, Alan (Tara) of Calgary, Alta., Bruce (Barbara) of Brandon, Man., and Ross (Cindy) of Barrhead, Alta.; grandchildren, Julie (Paul) and Richard (Jacquie) of Brandon, Man., Alana (Richard) of Toronto, Ont., and Jon (Natalie) of Calgary, Alta.; and great-grandchildren, Paige, Dannnah, Cade, Madeleine, Cohen, and Mayson.
Born in 1921, Richard was raised in the Lake of the Woods region of Ontario. Following his service as a Chief Petty Officer in the Canadian Navy, he brought his bride, Frieda, from Oliver back to the lake, where they ran a commercial fishery, a tourist resort, and happily raised a family.
He later attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont. and went on to become a tax assessor for the Ontario government.
He eventually retired to Oliver, where he enjoyed many cribbage games with his friends. He volunteered as an income tax preparer, and was a member of the Kiwanis and was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 412 Skagit Ave., Oliver, B.C., with Rev. Darren Siegle officiating.
Interment to follow at the Oliver Cemetery.
