RICHARD JACK GEARY

Geary, Jack

It is with sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce his passing on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, Ont.
Born in Emo, Ont. to Tom and Susan Geary, Jack was the eldest of 10 children.
Returning to Fort Frances, Ont. after overseas service in World War II, he worked for Robertson Trucking. It was in Fort Frances that he met and later married Hilda Sharpley in August of 1950.
Moving to Kenora in 1953, Jack spent all of his working life employed in the trucking industry–wood haul in winter and road construction in the summer. Many people he encountered remained lifelong friends.
Jack was an honest, hard-working man who taught his daughters, Lynne and Darlene, a work ethic second-to-none.
In later years, winters were spent enjoying the company of family and friends at Strawberry Square in Plant City, Fla. Summer fun always included fishing and camping. In fact, both Lynne and Darlene got to experience camping at some job sites–Vermilion Bay for Lynne and Red Lake for Dar.
Fall saw Jack getting ready for the annual moose hunt, which he went on well into his 80s.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Hilda (1985); infant daughter, Colleen (1960); daughter, Darlene (2013), and companion, June Davis (2006).
He also was predeceased by his brothers, Earl and Hughie; and sisters, Elsie (Ball), Susan (Wilson), Nellie (Derouard), and Pansy (Geary).
Jack is survived by his daughter, Lynne (Mychalyshyn); granddaughters, Shauna (Gregg Kozie) and Tara Lynne (Matt Elders); and great-grandsons, Shaun (Lacombe) and Jase (Kozie).
Also surviving are Shauna and Tara Lynne’s father, Sid, and son-in-law, Wayne Gilbertson (April); brother, Ed; and sisters, Jean (Geary) and May (Swartman).
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Kenora.
The honourary pallbearers were Lawrence, Albert, and Glen Derouard, Garth and Kevin Meadows, Craig McLean, Don Canfield, and great-grandson, Shaun Lacombe.
Should family and friends so desire, in memoriam donations to the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
