This is in loving memory of Rick Pearson, 42, who passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2003. Rick was born June 23, 1960 in Fort Frances, where he lived most of his life.
After graduating from Fort Frances High School, Rick completed his Bachelor of Honours degree in Commerce at the University of Manitoba.
He began his career as an accountant in Thompson, Man., but later returned to Fort Frances, where he set up his own business and became manager of the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion.
Rick was an avid golfer and loved to see the Boston Bruins beat Montreal and Toronto. He enjoyed summers at the lake with his family and, in particular, loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Recently, Rick enjoyed his annual winter vacation with the Voutt family, having travelled with them and his brother, Tom, to many Caribbean destinations.
As manager of the Legion, Rick was surrounded by caring and loving people who touched his life in many ways. He enjoyed the time he spent mingling with the members and always had a smile on his face when we picked him up to go home.
Rick was a fighter and his family was with him every step of the way. At the age of 15, his mother, Mary Jane, donated a kidney for his first transplant. At 35, he received his second kidney from his brother, Tom.
Despite numerous battles, Rick tackled the challenges head on and never complained. He was an inspiration to us all.
Rick will be sadly missed by his parents, Ross and Mary Jane; one brother, Tom; three sisters, Laurie Holliday, Mia and husband, Paul Wedgbury, of Toronto, and Sonja and husband, Mike Bodnarchuk; two nieces, Alyssa and Jamie Holliday; two nephews, Jonathan Wedgbury and Braden Bodnarchuk; as well as many other relatives.
Rick also was blessed with his “second” family, Jane and John Voutt, Michelle, Roy, Jessica, and Dillon Kaun, Melissa Voutt, and Brent Danylchuk.
Rick was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Eric and Inga Pearson; his maternal grandparents, Dudley and Lillian Thomas; and his brother-in-law, Brian Holliday.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
A visitation will be held for friends and family on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 anytime between 7-9 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be Roy Kaun, Craig Sanders, Brent Danylchuk, Noris Piccinato, Lance Halstead, and Ralph O’Connor.
Honourary pallbearers will be Jane and John Voutt, Mike Bodnarchuk, Paul Wedgbury, Frank Auger, Ted MacDonald, Bruce Holmlund, Dave Helgeson, Helen Matheson, Pete Makarchuk, Rolly Crawford, and his many friends who loved, supported, and prayed for him.
In memoriam donations may be made to either the Kidney Foundation of Canada, c/o Wendy Agar, 1117 Fifth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1V8 or the Zion Lutheran Church, 1105 Scott St., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1J7.
